When I was in high school, there
was a comic strip called "Moon
Mullins". I picked up the nick name
"Moon". In the military, it seems
everyone has a nickname, and
after not having one in college,
"Moon" emerged again.
When I got to Nam, there was a
pilot who already was using the
call sign "Moon". He outweighed
me so he agreed to change his call
sign when he flew to "Full Moon"
and my call sign became "Half
Moon".
He was KIA in Nam after another
tour and I eventually after
becoming a civilian, use the
military nick name "Moon" in
honor of him.
